Perched up high on a ladder behind a curtain, cat companion in handbag, the performer made sneak feather attacks on unsuspecting guests as they entered the store, then blasted dissonant music. Several times she took a “break” by climbing an outdoor ladder up onto the roof where she smoked, read, tossed sunflower seeds and walked her cat. At other times she roamed about collecting feathers and sneaking them into pockets or lapels of unsuspecting guests. The piece was built on internal oppositions between black/white, front/back, noise/silence, aggression/seduction, taking/giving inspired by the mythological trickster figure and a sort of imagined contemporary correlary amalgamation of bi-polar celebrity shoplifter cat lady. Performed on June 13, 2015 at Santa Fe Collective in Santa, a boutique/gallery space in Santa Fe, the piece imagined different forms of exchange. Rather than the visitor shopping or preying upon objects as usual, he became involved in games of theft, gift, and predation, inserted ambiguously into an implied food chain of sunflower seeds, bird, cat, human, wolf-coyote.
